[Submission] is the ability to lay down the terrible burden of always having to have our own way.

Are you seriously just going to post a definition? Now I'm curious about the context of why the word means something to you!

By the way, I miss you guys. Much much love coming at you from the Tredways.

:) - Thanks for sending the love, friend!

Maybe the post title should be "point to ponder." A group of us have been reading through Richard Foster's Celebration of Discipline and this week's chapters were on Submission and Service. This definition of submission seemed to hit the core of why we often find submission difficult - submitting our desires for others, whether it's God, family, church, friends, coworkers, or neighbors.

I also love the juxtaposition of the "terrible burden" being having to get our own way, rather than the "terrible burden" having to give up our own way.

The fact that selfishness is a "terrible burden" is quite true, though also incredibly ironic (delightful word choice though, I agree). If only we had eternal eyes to see how burdensome love/service of self truly is. Unfortunately, in the moment-to-moment view of life, serving myself doesn't seem so bad!
